FLEETING MOMENTS | PRECIOUS MEMORIES

I had such a wonderful time during this lifestyle mommy & me photo session at the Lafayette Reservoir last Saturday.  Natalie and her mom Marta have been my clients for four years and in the process of our six sessions together we became good friends.  Every time we get together it is fun and the images turn out so great as a result. 

About the Session

This session was not originally planned as mommy & me session. Unfortunately, Natalie's dad had to be absent and instead of rescheduling we opted to do the session anyways.  I am so glad we went with it.  Each portrait of Natalie and Marta that I took is just so tender and loving.  There is such a sweet bond between them that I had no other purpose then to capture this emotion.  No guidance was necessary.  Each image just revealed itself.  

Little Natalie is the most adorable child that I have ever photographed. Looking at her, you would never know that she is battling a serious invisible illness every day.  She takes more then 20 pills each day and does lung treatments with a vibrating vest twice a day.  She is a true warrior in every sense of the word.  About four years ago, a week or so after our newborn session, Natalie's parents discovered that Natalie has Cystic Fibrosis.  Ever since then they are on a quest to find the cure.  They created such a community around it in which we all who know them on a personal level show support.  In about two weeks my husband and I are participating in the Team Natalie Adventure Challenge triathalon and I urge those who can to sign up.  It will be a fun event and it will spread the word about finding a cure for Cystic Fibrosis.  

About the Location

Lafayette reservoir is such a beautiful location but I have not photographed that many sessions over there.  It's such an obvious spot which I frequent often for hikes and walks but somehow I don't suggest it necessarily to my clients. It is not on my top five list but maybe it should be. There are beautiful pockets throughout and it's so easy to get to.

I met this gorgeous mama and her family a few years ago through a mutual friend of ours. Life tends to always get in the way and our mutual friend moved away to the East Coast so we really havent's seen each other in a while. I was super excited to hear that Amanda's second baby is on the way and that she wanted me to capture these special moments.  My sessions allow me to reconnect and spend extra time with friends who I don't get to see that often. Plus, I get to meet a little baby boy very soon.  Basically, my job is awesome.

About the Family

Amanda and Alex are some of the sweetest people I ever had a chance to photograph.  They were both natural in front of the camera and were playful and even goofy at times. Also, their little girl Olivia was such a ham during the entire session. Capturing her personality was super easy. At one point, I completely switched to just photographing her. Our maternity session got taken over by this adorable mini model and we went along with it.  She was doing her poses and it was so cute and fun. One thing is for sure, there was not one dull moment during the two hours we spent together.  

Did I mention, Amanda looked stunning! The entire time, I was literally in awe of her pregnancy glow and beauty and could not contain my constant compliments. 

About the Location

For this maternity session we've decided that Borges Ranch in Walnut Creek is a perfect location. Borges Ranch has been around since the late 19th century and it's actually a historic site that is open to visitors. It's one of the favorite locations for photographers here in Walnut Creek and rightfully so.  Amanda wanted a natural yet rustic feel to her maternity photos and Borges Ranch delivers on both those fronts.  Surrounding hills and trails were covered in green which just added even more beauty. We even spotted some deer during our session.

About the Family

What a wonderful photo session it was with a beautiful baby Maeve and her parents Natalie and Matt. A few years ago I was one of the photographers who had a pleasure of photographing Natalie and Matt's gorgeous wedding at the Kunde Winery in Sonoma. The ongoing joke was that Matt had spent more time with me than anyone else during the wedding (other then his bride) because we were on top of a hill in an olive orchard waiting on Natalie to arrive for the first look.  There was some sort of delay so we spent at least 30 minutes chatting away.  I was so excited to hear that they had a baby girl and I was even more excited when they contacted me to photograph this family session for them.  

Throughout the entire length of about two hours baby Maeve was smiling and playing. She was in excellent spirits which her parents assured me she is in all the time. How lucky!!!  I was glad to partake in play and to interact with her.  Maeve was such a joy to photograph.  Towards the end, it was close to her nap and all she did was lean her head on her mommy's shoulder, which we can see from the very last photo. It was time to wrap up our shoot. I went home happy knowing that I had captured some beautiful memories.  

About the Location

Natalie and Matt live in the Oakland area and because of it's proximity I suggested to do a session at the Berkeley Rose Garden. I've only just discovered this gem of a location a few weeks prior to our shoot and was anxious to visit it again.  The rose garden itself is set on a fairly steep hill but just to the left is such a beautiful redwood grove setting.  It has tall redwood trees, two or three wood bridges, green ground cover made up of vines and beautiful steps.
